CONNECTING THE DOTS TO DEFINE A FUTURE VISION FOR ONBOARD CONNECTIVITY

With a complex ecosystem of stakeholders—including airlines, passengers, and crew—Boeing was in search of a comprehensive, future-facing strategy for implementing tech innovations to elevate the onboard experience for both passengers & crew

SCOPE OF WORK

A deep dive into the human and tech sides of the on-board connectivity, aimed at defining a robust system of connected features, services, and experiences.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES

  • Immersion: interviews, tech scanning

  • Framing: strategy, opportunities

  • Ideation: insights, vision, principles

  • Visualization: scenarios, specifications

KEY INSIGHT

A successful onboard solution must meet the needs of all three key stakeholders: the airline, the flight crew, and the passengers.

The TECHNOLOGY must have a single shared protocol, be easily installed on existing systems, and be easily updatable as technologies evolve.

The EXPERIENCE must be intuitive & unobtrusive, have a clear hierarchy of information, and favor individual/personal devices over public access points.

OUTCOME

A detailed, three-point strategy focused on delivering value to Boeing and its customers through a tech ecosystem that:

OPTIMIZES Airline Operations through connectivity that delivers automated and actionable insights—at fleet scale.
/ airplane and fleet health management through data monitoring, collection, analysis, and prognostics for optimization and proactive maintenance scheduling.

PROMOTES crew performance  through connectivity that helps them be authoritative, capable, and caring.
/ crew and ops connectivity for real-time updated passenger manifests, payments, and transfers

ENHANCES passenger experience  through connectivity that helps them feel informed, comfortable, and delighted.
/ in-flight wellness platform
